Making people smile at H.O.M.E.

The Community Services Committee is off to a great start as DG Garrity, Karen Hamilton and Hilary Stremming served as VIP Chefs for the folks at H.O.M.E. on Valentine’s Day.

“Everyone was very appreciative and welcoming,” shared DG. “We encourage our members to get a group together as the small amount of time you put into a dinner event like this is nothing compared to what you get out of making someone smile.”

There are several other opportunities for our chapter members to support at H.O.M.E on a Saturday or Sunday throughout the year…particularly on holidays.  Pull together a couple of friends or bring your family, along with your best recipes and food supplies, to prepare a meal and interact with our “extended family” at H.O.M.E.

Now is the time to begin your spring cleaning and plan to bring along any gently used or new household items to the Monday, March 8th GMC-PCMA meeting to support our H.O.M.E. donation table.  Items to consider include bed linens (twin size), small appliances, flatware, cookware and towels, etc.,

Celebrate the season and share in the delight with our friends at H.O.M.E on Tuesday, April 6th (1:30 – 5:00) for our Spring Fling! The Community Services Committee is currently seeking volunteers, meal sponsors, raffle prizes (with a minimum value beginning at $15.00 for gift cards, spa baskets, etc., ), spring decor, paper products and any items for “gift bags” for 60 – 70 senior residents at H.O.M.E.

H.O.M.E. … Housing Opportunities and Maintenance for the Elderly is a nonprofit organization committed to preserving the independence and dignity of low-income elderly in Chicago through a variety of housing and support services.
